⚽️ Kickstart Your New Year with Goal-Setting Tools 🥅

Hello Reader!

As the year comes to a close, it’s the perfect time to reflect, recharge, and set your intentions for 2025. Whether your goals are big or small, turning them into actionable steps can help you stay motivated and make the most of the year ahead.

In my last blog post here, I share two structured approaches to goal-setting—SMART Goals and the Goal Attainment Scale (GAS). These tools have been game-changers in my own life and can help you clarify, track, and achieve your goals.

Why Setting Goals Works

Did you know research shows that writing down your goals significantly increases your chances of achieving them? A study by Dr. Gail Matthews at Dominican University found that accountability, commitment, and goal documentation are the secret ingredients for success.

Whether you’re aiming to drink more water, read more books, or prioritize your health, having a structured plan can turn your aspirations into accomplishments.

Two Goal-Setting Methods to Try

SMART Goals

SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Sensitive. This framework helps you clarify your goals and create a realistic plan to achieve them.

Example: Instead of saying, “I want to read more,” try: “I will read one book a month (12 total) by December 31, 2024.”

Specific: 12 books in 12 months.

Measurable: One book per month.

Achievable: Realistic pace for most readers.

Relevant: Aligns with personal growth.

Time-bound: Includes a clear deadline.

Goal Attainment Scale (GAS)

GAS is a great alternative to traditional goal-setting. It uses a 5-point scale to measure progress and highlights when adjustments are needed.

Example: If you want to increase your daily steps from 10,000 to 12,000, set benchmarks, see the visual here.

GAS not only helps you track progress but also allows you to adjust your goals when needed—because growth isn’t always linear.

Let’s Make 2024 Your Best Year Yet

Whether you choose SMART Goals, GAS, or your own approach, the key is to write your goals down and revisit them regularly. Progress matters more than perfection, so take small, intentional steps toward the future you envision.
